More Than My Makeup
āIn the end you need to at least try to accept yourself for who you are.ā
by Lena Klein“Makeup can be brilliant, and it can bring out such creativeness in people. It can allow you to change, it can allow you to be artistic, but I think the thing with makeup is you need to allow yourself to still be a kid.”

More Than My Makeup
āBecause my music was so different, I wanted the way I looked to reflect that.”
by Lena Klein“I hated getting up in the morning and having to go the bathroom to slap on some Maybelline or whatever just to go into school and worry. Is it too much, is it too little, do I have a slut line?”

More Than My Makeup
āI would love to rock into college and not give a shit about my appearance.ā
by Lena Klein“Iām doing music, and a lot of women in that world always wear full face makeup and are really thin, beautiful, strong women. Being surrounded by all that it can be difficult going in with no makeup, and messy hair.”

More Than My Makeup
āYour idea of who you are, and of what beauty is to you, it changes.ā
by Lena Klein“I do think itās disingenuous to pretend that thereās no expectation to look pretty. I think makeup promoters are really disingenuous when they say they arenāt part of an industry which ultimately extorts women out of so much money based off of their insecurities.”

More Than My Makeup
āI like my makeup to say āfuck youā without me having to utter a word.ā
by Lena Klein“When Iām wearing makeup, because I like very bold colors, people that would normally encroach on my space will leave me alone and back off. I find that men are more intimidated by it and I find that women will be more likely to sit near me.”

More Than My Makeup
āIām the fattest that Iāve ever been. But itās not the worst Iāve felt about myself.ā
by Lena Klein“I felt like whenever I went to work I had to get up super early to do like my full face, and my hair, and pick a full outfit. And it kind of felt the same at next job as well, cause some of the girls there would always wear make up and I was the only one who would turn up wearing just moisturizer.”

More Than My Makeup
“I went to an all girls, catholic private school. Everyone was competing.”
by Lena KleināI went to an all girls, catholic private school. There was always a bit more pressure to be the more dolled up girl and look the best. Every was always competing; who had the shortest skirt, and all that. Then, as the years went on -as I got to probably year ten or so- I started to feel the pressure.”
-
āI remember when I started at a new high school, and for the first month or two I wore make up every single day. There were new people, and I wanted to be cool. But there was no point, because no one ended up liking me at all; no matter that I looked pretty. Thereās really no point. No one actually cares.”

More Than My Makeup
“If you actually ask a guy what kind of women they like, a lot of them say natural.”
by Lena Klein“Learn to love your skin, and yourself. Anyone else who thinks any differently doesnāt deserve you. Itās a good filter. As soon as youāre yourself and youāre comfortable being you anyone who thinks āoh, youāre not good enoughā doesnāt deserve you. Because if they think that you need to look a certain way then itās good to get rid of them. And if not wearing makeup does that, then good. Then you can just be your authentic self.”
